STARGATE THE MOVIE - Eye of Ra from Pyramid
This was a pretty quick project.
I acquired the original production mold from the Stargate movie, didn’t find relevant to cast the entire thing, so i only made cast from the center part.
This mold were used to create the top part of Ra’s pyramid spaceship.
Even tho this mold is 23+ years old, by prepping it the rigth was, i didn’t damaged the mold at all. Several coats of release and very fast curing resin were used, allowed the mold to not suffer too much from casting.
After few touchs up, new mold was made, wasn’t relevant to make more casts from the original mold, it wasn’t durable enough and my goal was to preserve the mold.
Cold casting process was used to create replicas, this technique is about dusting the mold with metal powder, mixing powder with resin as well so the surface layer on the cast has a metallic finish.
Castings are plastic, and has absolutly no metal property.
Pulls has a mat finish, needs to be polished with steel whool and aluminium polish compound.
And wheatering was done to highlight details.
