STARGATE SG-1 - Eye of Ra, Anubis Superweapon
Any egyptian related props is a gem to me.
After acquiring an extra orange crystal, i asked the original ring’s owner if he could loan it to me in order to make a full eye of ra, he agreed :D
I made a mold of the ring, cast two pieces as the eye of ra in the show is double sided.
Why is one yellow and the other one pink ? as it was a personnal project, i didn’t had much time to make them , so i made the casts along the way with others projects using resin leftover.
The two rings had been glued together, i previously sanded the back of each cast in order to give a good grip for the epoxy to bond on, and fill the gap in between with bondo, sand it to make it smooth, primed with automotive grey primer and first layer of gold (MOTIP automotive spray can).
I have the digital artwork of this prop, so i checked it for color references as i wasn’t sure about the blue, this one was blue lapis, which is a color made from rock, couldn’t get it in regular store, hopefully a friend had some left he gave me, the V shape all around was copper color.
Painting these were quite time consuming, i did one layer of copper and two layers of lapis blue, then sealed everything with clearcoat.
About the eye drawing, i printed the artwork on photo quality paper, cut it with a sharp x-acto knife and glued it to the orange crystal with 3M spray glue.
the crystal and ring wasn’t fitting together straight, there wasn’t any grip between eachother, so i glue a strip of 2mm foam inside the ring in order to get a tight fit between those two.
And now the two parts were all secured together.
