STARGATE UNIVERSE - Destiny Airlock
This prop was bought at auction by collector A
Here is a picture from the auction (the first one), i know low resolution quality, but that’s the only one i could find
Collector A had comissionned someone to completly repaint the prop brand new
Then collector B bought it from collector A, but wanted to get the original look of the prop back , so he contacted me to repaint it as it was originally + fixing the electronic collector A had poorly done
Paint restoration :
Electronic replacement :
The electronic was a nightmare ; the wires were shoved into dominoes without being properly isolated, diameter wires were unconsistent.
“Bridges” had been made to connect some wires to others, it was really really bad, basically the pvc plastic around the cable was melted with the soldering gun exposing the electrical wire, then another wire was soldered on top of it, once again not isolated, and on top of that the process must have been done cold because the soldering joint were snapping like nothing
All the back of the prop was covered in white tape , which wasn’t electrical tape
Electronic job by collector A :
So first step was to create a backplate in order to cover the electronic during my restoration process, that way while i wasn’t working on it, the electronic components were secured and out of dust.
The backplate was CNC’d and attached to the prop with inserts i’ve placed into the back
Then the rest speaks for itself ; i’ve CNC’d proper plates to house the led boards, attached with screws instead of hot glue for easy troubleshooting if needs be.
The cheap pvc wires had been replaced by high grade quality silicone coated wire.
Everything was properly wired together and isolated with electrical tape this time and the power cable was “left to option” for collector B, he could use the one provided or do his own with the extra connector i had provided him.
Everything was done to make other’s people life easy if needs be.
Here is the final result of all this restoration process :
